Failed Back Surgery Syndrome (FBSS) in Staten Island, NY

Calmare Pain Relief Solutions offers treatment for failed back surgery syndrome to the residents of Staten Island, Brooklyn, and the surrounding communities in New York.

What is Failed Back Surgery Syndrome?

Failed Back Surgery Syndrome, for FBSS, is a term used to describe the condition experienced by patients who have had back or spinal procedures without success and who still suffer from pain.

During back surgery, it is not possible to literally cut out the patient’s pain, only to make anatomical corrections that could help. And injuries, or lesions that are causing the pain, need to be identified prior to surgery. That said, back surgery remains less than 100 percent effective at curing a person’s pain primarily because the lesion that was causing the pain was not the one that was operated on.

Unfortunately, the success rate for eliminating the pain decreases with each consecutive operation the patient undergoes.

How is Failed Back Surgery Syndrome treated?

The condition may be treated with Calmare® Therapy, a non-narcotic, non-invasive medical procedure for the treatment of chronic pain. For more information about Calmare® Therapy, please click here.

Who is a candidate for treatment?

Treatment candidates include any person who has undergone surgical procedures to treat their back or spinal pain, but with limited or unsuccessful results and thus still experiences chronic pain.

What is the recovery process?

The recovery process for back pain conditions varies from several weeks to a few months and can be dependent upon a number of factors, including your age, fitness level prior to treatment, the kind of work you do, the extent of the injury, and how well you adhere to the physician’s advice in making necessary lifestyle changes following treatment.

There are also a number of things that you can do to help yourself through recovery. These include exercising, sleeping on your side with a pillow between your knees, and taking small walks. You also should avoid heavy lifting and bending over and twisting.

Patients are under medical management during the recovery phase with an emphasis on minimizing and reducing pharmaceutical usage.
