Pudendal Neuropathy in Staten Island, NY
Calmare Pain Relief Solutions offers treatment for pudendal neuropathy to the residents of Staten Island, Brooklyn, and the surrounding communities in New York.
WHAT IS PUDENDAL NEUROPATHY?
The pudendal nerve is located in the pelvic region, including the genitals, urethra, anus and perineum. Pudendal neuropathy is a condition in which the nerve is compressed or damaged. Also known as “cyclist’s syndrome,” pudendal neuropathy is a rare condition that affects men and women, and symptoms differ slightly between genders. Men typically experience pain in the buttocks scrotum, penis and perineum, while women have pain in the buttocks, vulva, urethra and perineum.
Symptoms are typically more severe when you sit, with the discomfort increasing as you sit for longer periods of time. Sexual activity may trigger the discomfort, as well as urinating.
HOW IS PUDENDAL NEUROPATHY TREATED?
Pudendal neuropathy may be treated with Calmare® Therapy, a non-narcotic, non-invasive medical procedure for the treatment of chronic pain. For more information about Calmare® Therapy, please click here.
WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR TREATMENT?
Because pudendal neuropathy is a rare condition, patients may be improperly diagnosed. You should seek the care of a qualified physician who is experienced with the diagnosis and treatment of pudendal neuropathy. Your physician may approach your diagnosis by ruling out other possible causes, and this may require several additional tests.
Once you are properly diagnosed, your physician explains your treatment options.
WHAT IS THE RECOVERY PROCESS?
Your physician may recommend that you modify or avoid certain activities to help with your recovery. You may need to use a cushion when you sit, especially for long periods, and you may need to avoid certain exercises and stretches, as well as squatting and bending. Your recovery may also include physical therapy.
Patients are under medical management during the recovery phase with an emphasis on minimizing and reducing pharmaceutical usage.
