Sciatica Pain Treatment in Staten Island, NY

Calmare Pain Relief Solutions offers treatment for sciatica to the residents of Staten Island, Brooklyn, and the surrounding communities in New York.

What is sciatica?

Sciatica is one of the most common causes of lower back pain in the United States and can range from moderately painful to severely debilitating. The pain experienced from sciatica can radiate from the area of the lower back, down the leg, and to the calf, and whether acute (lasting up to six weeks) or chronic (long-term pain), patients should seek non-invasive interventions to alleviate it.

The most common causes of sciatica are slipped discs and inflammation. As your spine is made of vertebrae that support your body and its weight, it can come under pressure over time. As a result of aging or strenuous work, the back may slip slightly and can cause the sciatic nerve to become trapped, which causes pain.

Spinal stenosis, which is the narrowing of passages along the spine, can cause nerves to be trapped and in turn, trigger sciatica. Sciatica also can be caused by infections, injuries, and growths.

How is sciatica treated?

The condition may be treated with Calmare® Therapy, a non-narcotic, non-invasive medical procedure for the treatment of chronic pain. For more information about Calmare® Therapy, please click here.

Who is a candidate for treatment?

During your initial consultation, the doctor will provide a thorough evaluation and exam, asking you questions about the location, severity, and duration of the pain you are experiencing. He also may order diagnostic tests such as X-rays, CT scans, and MRI imaging to further confirm the diagnosis. It is important that you tell him about all of the pain you are experiencing, whether it is related to your back or not.

What is the recovery process?

In most cases, home care and rest may be all that is needed to recover from sciatica after treatment. You may also want to apply ice which will help alleviate any inflammation as well as incorporating a stretching routine and regular exercise in your daily routine. In addition, it is especially important to resist performing any activities that may have attributed to the condition’s onset.

Patients are under medical management during the recovery phase with an emphasis on minimizing and reducing pharmaceutical usage
